#OctPoWriMo 2013: Dead Bud

Press play to listen to beautiful music while you read…

Another one from Fabrizio PaterliniGirasoli e lavanda from Fragments Found.

#OCTPOWRIMO: Every day for one month I’ll collect inspiration from here and write/post a poem here. You can too!

PROMPT: “Shadows.”

This poem is an old one, but it certainly fits the prompt, which required we connected with our shadow selves.

Dead Bud

Born a flower

…petals tight.

Removed one by one

…night by night

Without colour

…the bud remains

It cannot blossom

…embraced in shame

Inside the Ugly Duckling

…never The Swan.

No fragrance nor beauty:

The Petal-less One.

  1. This is a dark poem, Shah, and as beautifully expressed as it is, I’m glad the sense of life and joy has returned. Perhaps this poem is an example of a healing poem, recognizing loss and moving on. What was once implacable (“the bud remains/it cannot blossom”) is now transformed (“I am less ‘dead bud’).

I would say “I blossom anew” for your poetry and your other writing flowers!
