#OCTPOWRIMO: Every day for one month I’ll collect inspiration from here and write/post a poem here. You can too!

PROMPT: Remember back to your childhood dreams (of 8 years old).

 Memories of Her

A baby, a doll, her whining clamour

She sloped in silent spots

thinking, painting better times on

blank woodchip wallpaper.

She dreamed of laughter,

a sincerely felt reciprocal smile,

to be new, someone else

someone better…

of Christmas, of Dad’s visits,

of words she was yet to understand.

At night, she dreamed

of the park in the dark, felt

its clawing branches of

shadowed fingertips, creep

… how they made her weep.

Yes, I remember her…

Those were not her best days.
